Changelog
The public changelog starts with version 2026.10.1, the first public version of CodeB Wallet. Development began in March 2023; that internal work is summarised at the end of this page.
Version 2026.10.77 – 22 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• The app now starts with the animated CodeB logo.
Version 2026.10.76 – 22 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Settings: the offer to create a free CodeB account is no longer shown once the wallet is signed in or already holds documents.
Version 2026.10.75 – 22 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• The app is now also available in French.
• When the one-time copies of your PID for checks are used up, the wallet says so and fetches new ones at once.
• Other apps can save a document straight into CodeB Wallet: choose CodeB Wallet when Android asks where to save it. The usual offer screen with your PIN follows.
• Age checks with the EU age-verification link: a website can ask only whether you are over a certain age – nothing else is shared, and the website is shown as not identified.
• Checking a document: the revocation status of ISO mdoc documents is read correctly.
• Works with more issuers and verifiers that follow the OpenID standards.
Version 2026.10.73 – 21 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• When a check asks for a document the wallet does not have, the message names the document – and says so if the wallet holds it only in the other format (SD-JWT or ISO mdoc).
• Settings: once the wallet is signed in to an account, the offer to create a free account is no longer shown.
Version 2026.10.72 – 21 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• When you add a card, the offer shows its format under each card (SD-JWT or ISO mdoc).
• When a website asks through a service provider, the consent screen names both: the website and the provider acting for it.
• Read-only PKI cards can also carry an RSA-2048 signing key.
• Cards can be added again if a key stored on the phone could not be read any more.
• An invitation that has expired or was already used now says so, instead of a general error.
• Add document from list: the whole page scrolls, so the cards fit on small screens; the PIN boxes fit narrow screens too.
Version 2026.10.68 – 20 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Home: swipe left or right on the card in front to browse through all your cards.
• Updating a card that needs you to sign in again now opens the sign-in instead of an error.
• The quick start for a first Photo ID is shown only in a new, empty wallet.
• New guides: your phone as a read-only or writable NFC tag.
Version 2026.10.66 – 20 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• New home screen: one card in front with “Hold to reader” (NFC cards) or “Open”, all other cards as tiles – grouped and searchable when you have many.
• Hold a tile to keep that card in front.
• Quick start for your first card: your Photo ID in 2 minutes with your passport or ID card.
• Shortcuts on the app icon: Scan QR code, Verify someone, One-time codes.
• “Send feedback” in Settings, and an offer to unlock with fingerprint or face after setting your PIN.
Version 2026.10.64 – 20 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Cleaner home screen: new cards simply appear when they are waiting for you.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.63 – 20 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• NFC features for everyone: reading your passport or ID card, signing with a signature card and using access cards no longer need a special test card.
• A calmer typeface: a single-storey “a” and a slightly smaller app.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.62 – 20 October 2026 (test on Google Play) – required minimum version
• NFC cards: while a card screen is open, the phone only acts as the card and no longer reads other phones – no more “New tag collected” pop-up when another phone writes to an NFC memory card.
• New cards straight to your wallet: the wallet checks for waiting cards at every start, and “Check for new cards” on the home screen asks again.
• Clearer texts when setting up the PIN.
• Older versions must be updated.
Version 2026.10.61 – 20 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Fixes a crash of version 2026.10.60 when the home screen opened.
• Includes everything from 2026.10.60 (new cards straight to your wallet).
Version 2026.10.60 – 20 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• New cards straight to your wallet: when phone.codeb.io sends you a card, it appears on the home screen – no link or QR code needed. Press “Add” and unlock as usual, or choose “Not now” or “Decline”.
• A notification tells you when a new card is waiting.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.59 – 20 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• NFC memory cards: while a card is ready, another phone always sees a normal writable tag (before, it could get the ID-sharing handshake and show “New tag collected”).
• Showing an ID in person stops a ready NFC memory card first.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.58 – 20 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Access cards and NFC memory cards stay ready for up to five minutes after “Use at reader” (before: one minute).
• Developer setting “CodeB test access certificates”: the new test certificate authority of phone.codeb.io.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.57 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Sign in with your Maltese eID card: scan the QR code on the sign-in page of phone.codeb.io, hold your card to the phone and enter its PIN – the sign-in completes in your browser.
• Your wallet and your CodeB account: the app links this phone’s wallet to your account, so you can revoke it on your account page if the phone is lost. You can also revoke it in the app.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.56 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• NFC memory cards: an issuer can now allow readers to write to the card. What a reader writes stays on your phone; the card shows when it was written, the last writes, and “Restore issued content”.
• Adding several documents from one offer: if one of them cannot be added, the others are kept.
• The wallet now tells the issuer when a document was stored.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.55 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Reading a passport or ID card: the scanning frame keeps its full size again; the hints are shown above and below the camera view.
• PKI cards: the card details show only what matters to you – read/write or read-only.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.54 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• New account with your passport or ID card: one button “Add my documents” adds the PID and then the Photo ID.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.53 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Read/write PKI card: the card PIN can now have 4 to 16 characters (before: at least 8). The read-only card keeps 6 to 8 digits.
• Reading a passport or ID card: the scanning frame no longer sits under the hints on small screens or with large text.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.52 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• PKI cards: change the card PIN in the app – current PIN, new PIN twice, confirmed with your fingerprint, face or screen lock. Windows’ own “change PIN” keeps working too.
• Read-only PKI card: a blocked PIN can be unblocked in the app with the PUK you noted when the card arrived.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.51 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Phone as a PKI card: after Use at PC, the card screen shows whether the phone is connected to the PC’s reader – a pulsing grey light while it waits, green while connected (it flickers when data goes through), red if the connection drops.
• Read/write PKI card: remove a certificate and its key from the card in the app – after the card PIN.
• Text on your cards is never cut off: long names and e-mail addresses shrink to fit or wrap to a second line.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.50 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Several PKI cards on one phone: each card shows a name from its certificate – for a Windows sign-in certificate your sign-in name – or the last characters of its card number, and the card page lists the certificates on the card with purpose, issuer and validity.
• Phone as a PKI card: more reliable on phones that hand NFC to apps late – while the card screen is open, CodeB Wallet asks Android to send the card's requests to it first.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.49 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Read-only PKI card: right after you add it, your organisation’s server puts your signing certificate on the card, so programs on the PC can sign with it after you enter the card PIN. The card page shows when the certificate is on the card.
• Revocation checks for cards in the mdoc format now use the server’s new signed status list.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.48 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Phone as a PKI card: fixes found in a Windows test – Windows can now read the key it created on the read/write PKI card and continue the enrolment.
• Revocation checks of your cards are more reliable when the phone's clock is a little behind.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.47 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• CodeB Access card: after you add the card, its door key is registered with your organisation, so the administrator sees its card number and can enrol it in door readers. Only the public key and a proof that it lives in your phone's secure hardware are sent – never the private key.
• Phone as a PKI card: no more two-minute limit – the chosen card stays ready while its screen is open and ends when you take the phone off the reader or close the screen.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.46 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Works with more services that follow the German EUDI developer guide: start links in the form openid4vp://https://… open the request as well, and signatures made with Ed25519 keys are checked.
• Trust lists of the EU are only accepted from their known signer, so a forged list cannot make a service look verified.
• Names in the German PID keep special characters such as Ä, Ö, Ü and ß exactly as issued (checked).
• For developers: an optional setting to test with the German EUDI test environment (off by default).
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.45 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• PKI cards for Windows sign-in: your organisation now sets the card up from its server; on first use you choose the card PIN, and for a read-only PKI card the app shows your unblock code (PUK) exactly once.
• Sharing the app shows the QR code in the new CodeB frame, with a link to type in for people who cannot scan.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.44 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Phone as a PKI card for Windows sign-in: a read/write PKI card that Windows fills with your sign-in certificate itself, and a read-only PKI card that your organisation’s CodeB software sets up once. Only the chosen card answers, for up to two minutes, and only while your phone is unlocked.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.43 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• CodeB Access: the access card now also answers door readers that use the open PKOC standard (Public Key Open Credential, PSIA). The card shows its PKOC card ID, which your organisation enrols in its door system. As before, only the chosen card answers, for one minute, and only while your phone is unlocked.
• Any NFC card from phone.codeb.io now unlocks the NFC functions of the app in the closed test.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.42 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• CodeB Access: an access card from your organisation, issued by phone.codeb.io, opens doors and signs you in at a PC. Choose the card in the app, tap “Use at reader” and hold the phone to the reader. Only the chosen card answers, for one minute, and only while your phone is unlocked.
• Checking an ID: if the connection to the other phone is lost before a document arrives, the app now says so – the other phone may still be at the PIN entry – instead of reporting that the other phone ended the check.
• Stability and security improvements.
Version 2026.10.41 – 19 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Passports: the machine-readable zone of passports is now read much more reliably – the camera uses a higher resolution, the two 44-character lines are put together even when the camera sees them in pieces, and a switch turns on the camera light.
• Stability and security improvements.
Versions 2026.10.11 to 2026.10.40 – October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Stability improvements.
Versions 2026.10.8 to 2026.10.10 – 14 and 15 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Your documents: a document you hold in both formats (ISO mdoc and SD-JWT VC) is one card; the German PID can be added in both formats together; each document shows when you shared it, with whom and which details; reminders before a document expires or when it could not be renewed.
• Showing and checking IDs: check an ID back to back over NFC with two phones; “Verify a document” offers every card type of your enabled issuers; showing your ID several times in a row works reliably, also when the EU trust lists are briefly unreachable.
• More reliable connections, and documents that could disappear from the home screen after an update are shown again.
• Settings → About shows the installed version and a QR code to install CodeB Wallet; better accessibility (TalkBack, very large text, reduced animations); cards you can only collect by invitation are no longer offered in “Add document”.
Versions 2026.10.3 to 2026.10.6 – 13 and 14 October 2026 (test on Google Play)
• Distributed to invited testers through Google Play; available in English, German and Maltese; CodeB Wallet tells you about new versions and updates itself – from Google Play or from our website.
• Signing requests from a website’s QR code are handled in the app: several documents are confirmed once, signed together and sent straight back, with “Send again” if that fails.
• Clearer messages when a document cannot be added or an invitation cannot be used; issuers’ own card designs; invitation links open CodeB Wallet directly, also from e-mail and messengers.
Version 2026.10.1 – October 2026 – first public version (closed test)
• New CodeB design: your documents as cards you swipe through, big buttons for Show ID, Sign and Verify, plain-language help, and every “Learn more” ends with a button to start right away.
• Verify a document in person over Bluetooth – a digital ID, a driving licence or just “over 18” – with a clear trusted / not trusted result; showing your ID works with both Bluetooth roles.
• Documents from the CodeB issuer (phone.codeb.io): personal ID (PID) in SD-JWT and ISO mdoc format, driving licence and membership cards; choose your issuers in Settings; error messages explain the reason.
• Sign PDFs with Aloaha’s own PDF signing technology, and remote signing with the CodeB signing service (advanced electronic signatures).
How CodeB Wallet was built – internal development (since March 2023)
CodeB Wallet was developed in-house by Aloaha Limited in Malta from March 2023, building on the CodeB smartcard app for Android, until the first public version 2026.10.1.
Before CodeB Wallet – the background
• Since 2003 Aloaha Limited has worked on PKI, PDF development and digital signatures; this is where our own PDF signing technology comes from.
• 2006: Aloaha wrote middleware software for the German electronic health card (eGK) and the health professional card (HBA) – more than 20 years of experience in smartcard software development.
• 2012: Aloaha received the WIPO Award for Innovative Enterprises at the Malta Innovation Awards in Valletta – as the first software company to develop smartcard middleware that works across many different smartcard platforms.
• 2020, 2021 and 2022: CodeB was a finalist at Capacity Media’s Global Carrier Awards for its self-sovereign digital identity work – in 2021 and 2022 in the category Best Blockchain / Security Innovation.
• October 2021: CBAN, the association of telecom carriers working with blockchain (members include A1 Telekom Austria Group and PCCW Global), selected Aloaha Limited as technology partner to provide and operate its decentralised identity service – one identity per organisation, verifiable across different ledger networks.
• Since 2023: the Maltese electronic ID card has been supported natively on Android – first in CodeB Authenticator and CodeB Signator, the two Android apps that came before CodeB Wallet.
• The CodeB services on phone.codeb.io – issuer, signing service and verifier – are the counterpart of the wallet and are developed by Aloaha in Malta.
