New phone or lost phone – what happens to your EU wallet
The keys of your documents are made inside your phone’s secure hardware and never leave it – that is why nobody can copy your wallet, but also why a new phone needs your documents issued again. CodeB Wallet makes this simple: a password-protected backup brings your history and settings over, and each issuer issues your documents again.
- Keys never leave the phone
- Backup with your own password
- Lost phone: revoke on your account page

Why your wallet cannot simply be copied
Every document in the wallet is bound to a key that is created in the phone’s secure hardware. The key cannot be read out – not by apps, not by a backup, not by us. That protects you: a copied file is worthless without the key.
So a backup never contains the data inside your documents or their keys. On a new phone, the issuers issue your documents again, bound to new keys.
How to move CodeB Wallet to a new phone
- On the old phone open Settings → Back up to a file and choose a password.
- On the new phone install CodeB Wallet, set your PIN and tap New phone? Restore from a backup.
- Your history and settings come back, and each issuer issues your documents again.
- One-time code accounts come along in the same file – or move them with One-time codes → Transfer all accounts.
An encrypted copy on your CodeB account
Signed in to your CodeB account, you can keep an encrypted copy of the backup there: Settings → CodeB account → Save a copy now. Only your backup password opens it.
If your phone is lost or stolen
Your documents stay protected by the phone’s screen lock and the app’s own PIN.
If you were signed in to your CodeB account in the app, open your account page on phone.codeb.io and revoke this phone’s wallet. phone.codeb.io then no longer trusts that wallet and withdraws the documents it issued to it. Documents from other issuers: contact the issuer.
Giving a phone away
Open Settings → Delete wallet and confirm with your wallet PIN: documents, history, settings and keys are removed from the phone.
Questions about new and lost phones
Can I copy my EU wallet to another phone?
Not the documents themselves: their keys live in the phone’s secure hardware and cannot be copied. A backup moves your history and settings, and the issuers issue your documents again on the new phone.
What is in a CodeB Wallet backup?
Your document list, history, settings and one-time code accounts, protected by your password – never the data inside your documents or their keys.
What do I do if my phone with CodeB Wallet is lost?
Your documents are protected by the screen lock and the app PIN. If the wallet was linked to your CodeB account, revoke it on your account page on phone.codeb.io; documents issued to that wallet are then withdrawn.
