Scan & sign – photograph a paper document, get a PDF and sign it with a trusted time stamp, all on your phone
A contract, a form or a delivery note on paper? CodeB Wallet photographs it, straightens the pages and turns them into one PDF – and you sign that PDF straight away, on the same phone. You choose how to sign: your own signature card over NFC or the CodeB signing service. Every signature is embedded in the PDF in the PAdES format and gets a trusted time stamp that records when you signed. You can also send the scanned PDF to others to sign.
- Paper to signed PDF in one go
- Signature card (QES) or signing service (AdES)
- Trusted time stamp in every signature

The scanner finds the edges of the page, straightens it and crops it. Scan up to 20 pages into one PDF, or pick photos you already took. The PDF is named after the date and time of the scan, for example “Scan 2026-11-02 09-30.pdf”.
The scanned PDF then goes through the normal signing workflow: you check every page, choose your signature card or the CodeB signing service and confirm. How signing works.
How to scan a paper document and sign it
- On the home screen tap Sign, then Scan document (under Select document).
- Photograph the page – or several pages, up to 20. You can also import photos you already took.
- Check the pages: crop, rotate or delete a page, and tap Save. CodeB Wallet makes one PDF from them.
- Check the PDF in the preview and choose how to sign: Sign with signature card or Sign document (CodeB signing service).
- Confirm: with your card, the card access number (CAN) and your signature PIN; with the signing service, sign in and confirm in your browser.
- CodeB Wallet adds a trusted time stamp. You see “Document signed” – tap Save to phone or Share.
Scan a document and send it to others to sign
In a new signing request, tap Scan document next to Choose PDFs. The scan is added to the request like any other PDF – you can mix scans and PDFs, place signature boxes and invite the signers. About signing requests.
Colour or black and white: the scanner setting
Choose how the scanner treats a page in Settings → General → Document scanner:
Basic (default): crop and straighten only, no filters – the colours stay as they are.
Basic with filters: keeps the colours; a filter, for example black and white, only if you choose one yourself.
Full: automatic clean-up – removes shadows and raises the contrast, often in black and white. Filters can still be changed by hand before you save.
Privacy: what stays on your phone
The scanner is Google’s document scanner from Google Play services and runs on your phone. CodeB Wallet needs no camera permission for it, and scanning uploads nothing.
When you sign, the PDF stays on your phone: the CodeB signing service receives only the document’s fingerprint (hash), and with a card only a fingerprint of the signature goes to the time-stamp service. A PDF leaves your phone only when you choose to share it or send it in a signing request.
On phones without Google Play services the scanner is not available; you can still sign any PDF you have.
Questions about scanning and signing
How do I sign a paper document with my phone?
Open CodeB Wallet, tap Sign, then Scan document. Photograph the pages, tap Save, check the PDF and sign it with your signature card or the CodeB signing service. The signed PDF gets a trusted time stamp; save or share it.
Is every scanned document signed with a time stamp?
Every signature CodeB Wallet makes – also on a scanned PDF – gets a trusted time stamp that records when you signed. If no time-stamp service can be reached, the document is still signed, without the time stamp.
Why is my scan black and white?
The scanner’s “Full” mode cleans pages up automatically and often makes text pages black and white. Choose “Basic” (the default) or “Basic with filters” in Settings → General → Document scanner, or change the filter by hand before you save.
Is my scanned document uploaded anywhere?
No. The scanner runs on your phone and uploads nothing. When you sign with the CodeB signing service, only the document’s fingerprint (hash) is sent. The PDF leaves your phone only if you share it or send it in a signing request.
Which signature does a scanned PDF get?
The same as any PDF: with a signature card that has a qualified certificate, a qualified electronic signature (QES); with the CodeB signing service, an advanced electronic signature (AdES) – both in the PAdES format with a trusted time stamp.
How many pages can I scan?
Up to 20 pages into one PDF. You can also import photos you already took instead of photographing the pages.
